Argentina legend Diego Maradona’s psychiatrist Agustina Cosachov, a trial accused of negligence in the death of soccer great gave a statement at the San Isidro court, that she does not regret the treatment she delivered to the 1986 FIFA World Cup champion. She also accused the private medical organistion for negligence in his home care. Maradona underwent surgery for a hematoma that formed between his skull and brain and stayed in intensive care at Los Olivos Clinic between November 4th to 11th. He then was discharged to a private home, where he breathed his last at the age of 60, on November 25, 2020.

“I acted convinced that what I was doing was best for the patient. In my role, I did what I could and even more,” said the psychiatrist in her testament at the court. Cosachov was a member of Maradona’s medical squad during the final stages of his life. She was accompanied by neurosurgeon Leopoldo Luque and psychologist Carlos Díaz. All three along with doctors Nancy Forlini, Pedro Di Spagna, Mariano Perroni, and nurse Ricardo Almirón are on trial for the murder of the Argentina football legend.

During her testament, Cosachov couldn’t hold her tears. The judge queried her about what she thought happened to Maradona. Replying to it, she said, “I don’t know” and cried profusely. If the psychiatrist along with other medical professionals are proven guilty, she might face upto 25 years of imprisonment.

Cosachov also divulged that she got a nod from the footballer’s family for home treatment. "We were all in agreement for home hospitalisation,” the psychiatrist said, referring to Maradona’s daughters, sisters, former spouse, and the company’s doctors. She also added, “Involuntary hospitalization was also considered but the family didn’t want that and home hospitalization was the only option.”
