The trial concerning the death of football legend Diego Maradona has brought to light critical testimonies, notably from Dr. Mario Alejandro Schiter, who treated Maradona for two decades. Schiter's recent statements have raised significant concerns about the medical decisions leading up to Maradona's passing. In his testimony, Schiter criticized the choice to discharge Maradona to home care following his 2020 brain surgery. He argued that Maradona should have been admitted to a rehabilitation clinic, emphasizing, "He should have gone to a rehabilitation clinic... a more protected place for him."

Schiter highlighted the challenges in managing Maradona's health, given his complex medical history and past struggles with drug addiction. He stated, "Knowing the patient, I would not have suggested home hospitalization; he was not easy to manage, given my direct knowledge of having treated him at the worst moment of his life." The trial involves seven medical professionals, including a neurosurgeon, psychiatrist, psychologist, doctors, and nurses, all accused of negligence that may have contributed to Maradona's death.

They lied to us: Maradona’s ex-wife speaks out on the incident

Prosecutor Patricio Ferrari presented a stark image of Maradona's final moments, describing his deathbed as a "horror theatre." Ferrari asserted, "They (the accused) are lying to you when they say they did not take part in murder." He further emphasized the gravity of the situation by stating, "Look, that's how Maradona died," while holding up a posthumous photo of Maradona, highlighting the alleged neglect.

Adding to the concerns, Maradona's ex-wife, Veronica Ojeda, testified about the inadequacies of the home care setup. She revealed that doctors convinced the family to opt for home hospitalization despite the house lacking proper medical equipment. Ojeda expressed her dismay, stating, "They lied to all of us, to all ..." She noted that Maradona was often left alone with only a bodyguard present, despite assurances of adequate care.
