India's head coach Rahul Dravid broke his silence on Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer losing BCCI’s central contract. Last month, the BCCI announced men’s central contracts and the governing body took the bold decision to drop a few names. Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan were among the players who were dropped from the list as they skipped the domestic season. Dravid said that while he has no involvement in it, he urged the players to work hard to find their spot back.

After India registered a win in the fifth Test against England and clinched the series 4-1, Dravid said, "I don't decide contracts or discuss that. I don't even know what the criteria is. Both are in the mix and hope they play cricket, stay fit and force the selectors to pick them. No one is out of contention, players without contracts have also played.” He further said, "Rohit and I select playing 11. Sometimes even I don't know who is contracted and who is not. No one is out of the mix.”

Rahul Dravid backs Shardul Thakur for longer breaks between Ranji matches

Dravid extended his support to Shardul Thakur for longer breaks between Ranji Trophy matches and said it helps to manage workload. The ongoing Ranji Trophy season has had a gap of three-day breaks between matches, and players raised issues about the schedule. Thakur was called out after the player took longer breaks during Ranji Trophy matches after he played a key role in Mumbai’s SF win over Tamil Nadu.

Dravid said, “We need to hear the players. They are the ones putting bodies on the line. If they are saying, we need to see how to manage domestic schedule better.” Thakur will be with his team’s side from Sunday against Vidarbha in the Ranji Trophy final.
