After a 1-0 series win in the three-match T20I series, the limited-overs side is all set to play another three-match ODI series. Notably, Shikhar Dhawan will take the charge at the helm in the 50-over format. The first match of the series will be played on 25 November at the Eden Park, Auckland.

 

Dhawan was recently named the skipper of his IPL franchise Punjab Kings, replacing Mayank Agarwal at the helm. He will be leading the national side in the ODI series, starting tomorrow with key players in Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul being rested post the T20 World Cup 2022 debacle.

 

While speaking to ESPNCricinfo, the 36-year-old was asked about his leadership role ahead of the New Zealand series. The veteran batter said that he is not worried about losing the captaincy. “Jobs come and go, no worries. Humne khaali haath aana hai, khaali haath hi jana hai. Yeh sab toh yahin reh jaana hai. Toh uska merko koi darr nahi. ( I don't have any fear about losing the job of captaincy. We came to this world empty handed and will go like that, everything will remain here )”, he said.

 

Shikhar Dhawan has captained  India in nine ODIs and three T20Is. Out of the twelve matches, Dhawan has won eight of them as the skipper.
