Avesh Khan grabbed the limelight after bowling extraordinarily for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match played at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Saturday, April 19. Chasing the target of 181, RR choked in the final over when they failed to score nine runs against pacer Avesh Khan. Taking on Shimron Hetmyer and Dhruv Jurel valiantly, the speedster gave away only six runs and got the key scalp of the West Indies player in the decisive over to help Lucknow win by two runs. He concluded his four-over spell with 3/37 figures in four overs and also became the player of the match (POTM) for his stunning bowling.
After the game, when Avesh Khan had a chat with Murali Karthik in the post-match presentation, he was compared by the former India cricketer with Australia’s ace pacer Mitchell Starc, who defended nine runs for Delhi Capitals (DC) in the final over against RR on April 16. Responding to Karthik, Avesh said he doesn’t want to become Starc as he wants to be a brilliant version of himself. "I don't want to become Mitchell Starc, I want to become a good Avesh Khan. I always try to back every single delivery I bowl and execute yorkers which are my strength. I always think it's better to take 10 extra seconds to bowl; it will help me execute better," said Avesh.

LSG depose RCB to gain fourth spot on IPL 2025 points table
With the close victory against RR in Jaipur, LSG have gained the fourth spot and pushed Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to the fifth place on the IPL 2025 points tally. Before Avesh’s bowling heroics, LSG saw a fine batting show from their opener Aiden Markram, who scored 66 off 45 to help the visitors post a competitive total on the board.
However, Lucknow’s headache will be their captain Rishabh Pant’s form as the 27-year-old again departed after scoring only three off nine. Appearing in eight games, the southpaw has scored only 106 runs in seven innings at an underwhelming strike rate of 98.14.
