In the ongoing first Test between India and England at Headingley in Leeds, Sai Sudharsan is a part of the visiting side’s playing XI as he got the debut cap before the start of the game. India are currently batting first after Ben Stokes emerged victorious at the toss and elected to field first. India kicked off the innings in style and had a fine start with the superb batting performances from the openers KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal. On the stroke of lunch on day one, Rahul fell to Brydon Carse and concluded his knock after scoring 42 off 78, and following his departure, debutante Sai Sudharsan walked into the middle.
His responsibility was to assist Jaiswal to solidify India's innings, but the 23-year-old couldn’t hold his nerves and lost his wicket to Ben Stokes without scoring any runs, getting sucked into the leg side trap set by the England captain. Noting Sudharsan’s miserable performance in his debut Test, his critics aren’t shying away from mocking him. An X user SKYX wrote, “I heard someone saying that Sai sudarshan is next Kohli. #INDvsENGTest.”
Below are some of the fan reactions on X after Sai Sudharsan lost his wicket for duck in debut Test innings vs England:
Shubman Gill walked into the middle to accompany Yashasvi Jaiswal
Following the fall of two quick wickets, skipper Shubman Gill joined Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has looked disciplined thus far. Both have stitched a 36-run stand after 33 overs bowled in the match. As of writing, India are 128/2 with Jaiswal batting at an unbeaten 49 off 91 and Gill at an unbeaten 27 off 29.
Witnessing the decent start by Team India in the game, their supporters will expect their side to not lose much wickets throughout the day. Expectations will be high with skipper Gill, who has started well in the contest.
