American profession mixed martial artist, Charles “Chuck Buffalo” Radtke reigned over New Zealand native and City Kickboxing veteran Mike “Blood Diamond” Mathetha on Sunday, 10 September at the UFC 293. The 33-year-old won over Blood Diamond via scores of 29-27, with the latter being deducted points for his repeated illegal groin kicks during the bout.
However, it was his first win with the promotions after stints in Bellator, Cage Fury FC and XMMA, things went wrong for the winner as he was under the limelight for using homophobic slur post his win. Radtke used several expletives, including a homosexual slur with Daniel Cormier cutting his interview short and taking off the mic from him.
Although, all said and being done, the 33-year-old later apologized for his comments via taking to social media. Radtke released a statement apologizing for his post-win comments, writing the words he used “are not a reflection of who I am and they don’t belong on a platform as great as what the UFC has provided me.”
“I’d like sincerely apologize to UFC fans across the world and to the fans here in Sydney for the remarks I made post fight today.. Those comments are not a reflection of who I am and they don’t belong on a platform as great as what the UFC has provided me. My emotions were running high… It’s hard to explain the way your mind works when you’re locked in a cage to fight another man with your entire livelihood and dreams on the line,” his statement read.
“I plan to learn from my mistakes from both during and after the fight and I’m hoping that I can get an opportunity to correct them in the future. Chuck Buffalo loves everybody,” he concluded in his statement.
As reported by one of the fans, UFC head Dana White agreed that Radtke made a mistake and has apologized on his own.
