Former Australian wicket-keeper Adam Gilchrist said that he got a hint of Rohit Sharma’s retirement from Test cricket during the fifth Test of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Sydney in January. Rohit stunned the cricketing fraternity with his sudden announcement of retirement from the longest format on May 7. The Indian skipper shared a story on his Instagram where he also confirmed that he will continue to play for India in the ODI format. In the last Test India played at Sydney Cricket Ground, Rohit Sharma dropped himself from the playing XI due to his poor form in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy down under.
The opening batter had a forgettable tour to Australia where he could only score 152 runs in 13 innings at a dismal average of 11.69. It also wasn’t a great outing for him as captain as India failed to retain the BGT for the first time in 10 years. Reacting to Rohit’s retirement from Test cricket, Adam Gilchirst said that he got a hint of this after he had a chat with Indian skipper when he dropped himself from the Sydney Test
“It’s an odd thing to say, but I’m thrilled for him. Particularly if it’s the latter option that you said there. And I think it would be that he’s made the decision. I sensed at Sydney, talking to him in and around the Sydney Test, when he left himself out or whatever the case was there," Gilchrist said in his conversation with Cricbuzz.
