Rishabh Pant discussed his equation with his captain Shubman Gill prior to the first Test between England and India in Leeds. Both Gill and Pant have been appointed skipper and vice-captain respectively for Team India. After the retirement of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, both star players will be expected to solidify India’s batting unit. Pant was part of India’s last two Test campaigns (2018 and 2021-22) while Gill has played only one Test against Ben Stokes’ team in England. In the crucial series, both might be seen batting in the middle order and there can be some situations when both will be expected to stitch partnerships together.
During a presser, Pant was asked about his relations with Gill. Responding to the query, he said that he has an amiable relationship with Gill on and off the field. "I think me and Shubman have a really good camaraderie off the field. If you're good friends off the field, it eventually comes on the field as well. That is something I've always believed. Me and him, we gel really well together. We keep on having conversations and the kind of comfort zone we have with each other, I think that is really going to be special for us," said Pant during the conversation.

Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill had controversial handshake in IPL 2025
Both Rishabh Pant and Gill hit the headlines in May 2025 following the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 game between Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Following LSG’s win, Gill seemed frustrated and shook hands with Pant. However, after the handshake, Pant was saying something but Gill seemed to have ignored him.
However, Pant’s recent statement corroborates all is well between both eminent servants of Team India. In the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, Pant scored 255 runs in nine innings of five Tests while Gill showed up in three contests and accumulated 93 runs in five innings.
