Former England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff has remembered his memories related to the horrific car accident, which happened in 2022. The Englishman recounted the incident while speaking for his Disney documentary ‘Flintoff,’ which will be released on April 25. Three years back while shooting for BBC's Top Gear, he suffered the accident, which left him with facial and rib injuries. After the accident, Flintoff underwent a surgery and the production of the BBC’s show got suspended. The former English cricketer also got the compensation of nine million pounds for the suffering.
Recounting the incident, Flintoff has now revealed what he felt while going through the toughest phase of his life. "I thought I was dead, because I was conscious but I couldn't see anything. I was thinking, is that it? Is that it? You know what I mean? Just black for the rest of my days? My hat came over my eyes - so I pulled my hat up and I thought, no I'm not [dead], I'm on the Top Gear track, this is not heaven. I thought my face had come off. I was frightened to death," said Flintoff while speaking for his upcoming documentary on Disney.
Flintoff serves England Lions as coach currently
In September 2024, the England Cricket Board (ECB) trusted Flintoff and gave him the responsibility to deliver emerging talents to the national side. The board appointed him the coach of England Lions, the B team which consists of young players. The 47-year-old also said that his return to the sport helped him to rejuvenate his life again.
"If one thing’s come out of it which is positive it’s being back in cricket. It’s probably the one thing that saved me. I’ve been welcomed back into that fold. It’s such a good place. I feel it’s safe. I have moments when I’m sat in a dressing room and I’m watching a game of cricket surrounded by cricketers and friends, and I’m able to forget," remarked Flintoff.
