With the talks around cricket at the Olympic Games in 2028 going strong, the Cricket Scotland Chief Executive, Trudy Lindblade recently opened up on the scenarios of Scotland and England merging up for a unified team, under the name of Great Britain. Notably, athletes from United Kingdom compete in Olympics as members of British team.

It is to be noted that cricket will mark its return to the quadrennial Games after 128 years.  As per the latest announcement made by the organisers of the LA 2028 Olympic Games, the cricket matches will be played at the City of Panama, West Coast (USA). As the sport will return, it will see six teams, each in men and women’s category, fight for the gold.

We have been in talks and are in process of establishing a Team GB cricket entity: Lindblade

Speaking with the BBC, the Chief Executive of Cricket Scotland said, “We have a really good working relationship with the ECB, so we have been in talks with them and are in the process of establishing a Team GB cricket entity." It is to be noted that England are currently ranked second in men's T20I and third in women's, while Scotland are not in the top ten in either format.

Lindblade further added, "That's what's required by the British Olympic Association (BOA) for a British team to compete at the Olympic Games. So it's really interesting - with six teams in the competition, we would have an opportunity through the GB concept. So, exciting times, and we'll continue to liaise with the ECB and our colleagues at LA28 and the ICC. It will be interesting."

The next edition of Olympic Games will be played from July 14 till July 30 in Los Angeles in 2028. This will be the first time that the spot will be played after last featuring in 1900 edition. With cricket being a six-team affair at the Olympics, every nation will be allowed to name a 15-member squad upon earning their qualification through to the cricket spectacle at LA28, and with that, there will be a total of 180 players competing at the Olympics, 90 players each in men’s and women’s tournaments.
