The Rohit Sharma-led Team India will take on Ireland later today (June 5) to open their campaign at the T20 World Cup 2024 in USA and West Indies. Although, the side will not only aim to end their trophy draught but will also think adding that ICC trophy in the Rohit Sharma-Rahul Dravid period. 

Dravid, who will aim to end his campaign at Team India’s Head Coach with the conclusion of the T20 World Cup 2024, skipper Rohit Sharma recently revealed that he had tried to convince Dravid to stay, but the latter decided against it. On Monday, the former Indian cricketer confirmed that will leave as head coach at the end of T20 World Cup, after being with the team for last three years.

“I tried convincing him to stay, but obviously there are a lot of things that he needs to look after as well. But yeah, I personally enjoyed my time with him. I’m sure the rest of the guys will say the same. It’s been great working with him. And I’m not going to say anything actually. “He was my first international captain when I made my debut in Ireland. Then I’ve seem him play while I was just coming into the team (for) Test matches when he was captain. And such a big role model for all of us,” the 36-year-old further added, recalling the good old days when he made his debut.  

Spin will play a big role in T20 World Cup 2024: Rohit Sharma

The Team India skipper, Rohit Sharma opened up on when asked what to expect at the T20 World Cup 2024. Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Sharma added that spin will play a major factor at the ongoing tournament and this clarity gives a better picture on which players to include in the side.  

“The spinners will have a role to play, a big one. Our spinners are all-rounders, Axar and Jadeja. They are required for a good balance of the team. In pace bowling all-rounders, we have Hardik and Shivam. We will think about how to use them in the tournament, as it progresses.” Rohit said in the pre-match press conference.
