Pro wrestling stalwart Ric Flair has made a shocking announcement as he celebrated his 50th anniversary in the industry. Taking to Twitter, the 'Nature Boy' proclaimed that he will never retire from the wrestling business. The 73-year-old made his debut in the American Wrestling Association in 1972.
Ever since then, the Memphis-born has grown into one of the greatest personalities in the industry. Flair wrestled his last match in July this year along with his son-in-law Andrade El Idolo. The duo faced the team of Jeff Jarrett and Jay Lethal.
The Nature Boy heavily bled and also passed out twice due to dehydration in the fixture. The Starrcast Events and Jim Crockett Promotions had promoted the bout as Ric Flair's Last Match, but The Nature Boy has teased with a possible return, months after the event.
The 16-time world championship holder posted that he will once again be returning to the ring. Ric Flair wrote, “Thank You To Everyone Who Helped Me Celebrate My 50 Years In The Business! One Thing Is For Certain... I WILL NEVER RETIRE! WOOOOO! #50YearsOfFlair.”
Before Ric Flair’s Last Match, there were a lot of rumours brewing about facing his long-time rival Ricky ‘Dragon’ Steamboat. Speculations said that he would be part of Flair’s retirement bout, however, this ultimately didn’t happen. But with Ricky Steamboat returning to the ring for Big Time Wrestling in the Dorton Arena in Raleigh, North Carolina, the fight with the Nature Boy wouldn’t be out of consideration.
These rumours went sky high as Flair was excited about Steamboat’s upcoming fight. He said, “It’s one of those deals where nobody’s ever going to be Ricky Steamboat, so they might as well watch him while they can and enjoy the opportunity because there never will be another Ricky Steamboat.”
“At every level, he’s better than 50% of the guys in the business today, and he wouldn’t get in the ring if he wasn’t. He holds himself to a very high standard, and I imagine he’ll probably look better than the guys he’s in the ring with because he’s always in good shape,” he further added.
