Star Australian batter Travis Head has cleared his stance on playing franchise cricket tournaments. Speaking to the reporters ahead of the Sri Lanka Test series, the Australian batter clarified that he will play only one franchise cricket tournament, that is the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The left-handed batter fetched INR 6.80 Crore from the SunRisers Hyderabad ahead of the IPL 2024. After making his debut in 2024, he was retained by the Orange Army ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction for a price of INR 14 Crore. After his appearance in IPL, he also turned out for Washington Freedom in Major Cricket League last year, but then opted out of the Big Bash League 2024-25 seadon.

I won’t play franchise cricket other than IPL: Travis Head

Speaking on the eve of the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle, the 31-year-old told the reporters that he will only play the IPL to keep him fit for the Australian cricketing calendar. "I won’t play franchise cricket other than IPL. Big Bash will be the third team I play for, so I won’t play anything other than that at this stage, and I think that gives me the opportunity to have that time off,” he said, as quoted by The Sydney Morning Herald.

“It’s pretty hard to have those eight days off and then play MLC in a couple of months’ time or the Hundred. So I understand that and I’m very lucky to have those seven days off on this tour and Test cricket’s the most important thing at the moment for us as a group. So I want to put as much effort as I can into that," he further added.

Head last featured in the Australian squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25. He finished as the highest run-getter, smashing two centuries. Although, he endured twin failures, he still amassed 448 runs in nine innings.
