India is set to host the forthcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2023 from October 5, where the season opener will be a rematch of the 2019 WC final. In the marquee event, the hosts will open their campaign on October 8, against Australia at the MA Chidambaram in Chennai. However, before the tournament, the hosts have reportedly been directed to prepare more batting-friendly pitches.

According to reports by the Hindustan Times, the international regulating body has passed clear instructions to the hosts for pitch curation. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have been asked to provide a 60-40 pitch conducive to batting.

The reports further state that the ICC pitch consultant Andy Antinkson addressed a gathering of all host associations, where he instructed them to not come under any pressure to remove glass from the pitches. Based on the study of the past three ODI World Cup editions’ data, the ICC wants the forthcoming edition to be a high-scoring affair.

If reports are to be believed, the associations have also been asked to ensure that no excessive cutting for the ball to travel faster. Also, speaking of the boundary dimensions, it should be 70 yards and the maximum 80 yards. In addition to this, a minimum of three pitches are to be kept ready for action. The venues are also required to have covers in place to cover the entire ground in case of rain when there is an absence of sand-based outfields.
