India defeated New Zealand by 70 runs in the first semi-final with the help of brilliant centuries from Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer and stunning seven-wicket haul from Mohammed Shami. Initially, India winning the toss, posted a huge total of 397/4, but New Zealand didn't give up and gave a tough fight in the run-chase with the help of 181-run partnership between skipper Kane Williamson and Daryl Mitchell for the third wicket.
Daryl Mitchell's century gave a small hope for New Zealand to chase down 398 runs, but it became too much for them as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals after reaching 220-run mark and the increase in required run rate also put a huge pressure on them, with Shami playing a key role in India's victory.
