Bangladesh defeated Sri Lanka by 3 wickets and recorded their second victory in the ODI World Cup 2023 after losing six games on the trot. Bangladesh winning the toss invited Sri Lanka to bat first and restricted them to a total of 279 runs despite a stunning ton from Charith Asalanka. Angelo Mathews' timed-out dismissal became the talk of the town in this game.

Bangladesh chased down a target of 280 runs with 53 balls to spare with the help of a stunning 169-run partnership for the third wicket between Najmul Hossain Shanto (90) and skipper Shakib Al Hasan (82) respectively.
