Cheteshwar Pujara, a veteran Indian batter, conveyed a stern message to the Team India selectors ahead of the five-match Test series against England. The upcoming test match will be quite challenging for captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Gautam Gambhir after their humbling series loss to Australia. Pujara told Revsportz he would be ready to play if the team needed him. He further stated the opportunity for a comeback to the national team.
“As a cricketer, representing the Indian team is always a top goal. I’m putting in all the effort I can to reach that level. If the team calls upon me, I’ll be ready. Over the past few years, I’ve been consistently performing in domestic and county cricket, putting up strong numbers. So, should the opportunity arise, I’m eager to seize it," he said. Pujara last played for India in 2023 World Test Championship (WTC) Final against Australia.
"Yes, I was very confident," Cheteshwar Pujara on his missing opportunity for BGT 2024
He was considered for the 2024 Border-Gavaskar Test series, and he believes that if he had been included, India might have won three consecutive series in Australia. “I was very confident in our chances. If I had been there, we were aiming for a hat-trick, and I fully believed we could achieve it. I wouldn’t shy away from admitting that.”
Pujara acknowledged that overcoming England at home would be difficult, but he is still confident about India's advantage due to England's perceived "weaker" state.
"This Indian team definitely has a very good chance. Even if you look at the England bowling lineup, they are slightly weaker after Anderson has retired, and Stuart Broad is not there anymore in the playing XI."
