Defending champion Ding Liren made a great comeback to win game 12 of the World Chess championship against D Gukesh, as both players are now drawn at six points each. China’s Liren showed his masterclass against Indian grandmaster Gukesh and showed everyone why he is the defending champion. Reacting to this match, World number 1 Magnus Carlsen had a brutal take on defensive approach by both the players in the game.
Norwegian chess Grandmaster Magnus Carlsen stated that D Gukesh and Ding Liren couldn’t resemble themselves as contenders for the World Chess Championship title as their match failed to capture any excitement. “This does not look like a game between two World Championship contenders. It just looks like maybe the second round or third round of an open tournament. It’s like it’s the stage where you play somebody who is like decent with openings but then you just win with class," Carlsen was quoted as saying by News18.
Ding has not had to calculate a single line in this whole game: Magnus Carlsen slams Gukesh for going easy against Chinese Grandmaster
Magnus Carlsen wasn’t also happy with D Gukesh as he made the game look easy for Ding Liren. He called out 18-year-old Indian Grandmaster for his defensive approach which allowed Ding to counter attack and draw the match. “Ding has not had to calculate a single line in this whole game. He’s been able to play the whole game just based on positional understanding which he’s very good at,” Carlsen said.
“You have to make it difficult for your opponent. That’s when mistakes happen. If you play like the way that he (Gukesh) played today, it is very easy for the opponent to play near perfectly and win," Norway’s Grandmaster further added.
