Four years from now, the world may not see one of the greatest footballers of all time, Cristiano Ronaldo, playing in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Portuguese legend, who has won five Ballon d’Or awards and scored a record 115 international goals, recently gave an update on his future plans regarding the event. Ronaldo hinted that it might be unlikely for him to grace the World Cup once again.

Ronaldo was part of the Portuguese team that crashed out of last year’s World Cup in Qatar in the quarterfinals, where they lost 1-0 against Morocco. The striker had a disappointing campaign as he scored just one goal, which was a penalty in the Group Stage against Ghana. However, he has been in great form post-World Cup, scoring five goals in four matches in the Euro qualifiers.

Many fans hope that the five-time Champions League winner will be part of the Selecao das Quinas team at the 2026 World Cup. However, the Al Nassr superstar isn't looking that far ahead just yet and can't project himself that far.

Ronaldo said, “I'll be very honest, nowadays in the last two years, I think differently. Things happened that taught me to believe that life should be a moment. I can no longer think long-term. Anything can happen out there and change everything. Enjoy the moment. I aim to go to the EUROs and do an excellent tournament and we will see everything else. Life is dynamic and you don't know what could happen. Enjoy the moment.”

Euro 2024 might end up being the last major international tournament for the legend, and Portugal is currently on course to comfortably qualify for the same. They are currently top of Group J with four wins in four matches and will next face Slovakia on Saturday, September 9.
