On Saturday, November 4, Hardik Pandya, the Indian vice-captain for the ODI World Cup 2023, was ruled out of the tournament, due to an ankle injury he suffered against Bangladesh in the initial stages of the flagship tournament last month. Following the unfortunate news, the 30-year-old penned an emotional post on his social media, in which he talked about being in spirit with the team during their ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 campaign.
The Indian team management has replaced the all-rounder Hardik Pandya with the fast bowler Prasidh Krishna in the 15-member squad for the remainder of the ODI World Cup 2023. Notably, the ankle injury to the Indian cricketer happened when he slipped in his bowling follow through, during the match against Bangladesh at the Maharashtra Cricket Association in Pune on October 19.
Hardik Pandya took to his official X account to share his initial thoughts about getting ruled out of the ODI World Cup 2023 and said, “Tough to digest the fact that I will miss out on the remaining part of the World Cup. I'll be with the team, in spirit, cheering them on every ball of every game. Thanks for all the wishes, the love, and the support has been incredible. This team is special and I'm sure we'll make everyone proud. Love, always, HP”.
During the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, Hardik Pandya batted only once in his four appearances, scoring 11 not out against Australia in the first match. He had more of an impact with the ball, picking up five wickets in four innings, with an average of 22.40 and an economy of 6.84, especially while playing the role of the sixth bowler in the Indian playing XI.
