After announcing his retirement from all forms of cricket, former Indian opener Robin Uthappa has joined the Dubai-based ILT20 franchise, Dubai Capital for the inaugural season of the top-tier T20 league of the middle-east nation, starting from January 2023.

The 37-year-old Uthappa played last two IPL seasons with Chennai Super Kings, winning the title on one occasion with the Yellow outfit. The ILT20 was scheduled to be organised in January 2022 initially, however, the inaugural league of the UAE has been postponed to the next year.

In September 2022, Uthappa announced his retirement from the IPL after being part of the richest cricket league from its debut season in 2008. Apart from Uthappa, s tar players like Kieron Pollard, Dasun Shanaka, Wanindu Hasaranga, Andre Russell, and Eoin Morgan will feature in the ILT20 2023.

T he General Secretary of the Emirates Cricket Board,  Mubashshir Usmani expressed his pleasure of having big names to play the inaugural season and said, " This is a very exciting time for the league and, collectively, we are delighted to announce the 2023 ILT20 playing schedule. To have superstars such as Dubai Capital’s Dasun Shanaka and Abu Dhabi Knight Rider’s Andre Russell open their teams’ accounts is very exciting. "

In the IPL, Uthappa has played 205 matches and has scored 4,952 runs with an average of 27.51. Uthappa scored 27 half-centuries in his IPL career and registered his highest individual score of 88 runs.
