On Sunday, May 4, defending champions, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) defeated Rajasthan Royals (RR) by a close margin of a run in an afternoon match at the Eden Gardens in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Winning the toss, KKR skipper, Ajinkya Rahane won the toss and elected to bat first, seeing the pitch turn to a slower side as the lights come out.

However, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Sunil Narine kickstarted decently for the Knight Riders, but were dismissed early. Rahane also played a 24-ball 30, Andre Russell turned out to be a star for KKR as he played a 25-ball unbeaten 57-run knock to help the side put a competitive score of 206 on the board. In the run-chase, RR did not look much in the game as they were reduced to 75/5 after nine overs, Riyan Parag’s 95-run knock proved to be the game changer.

The stand-in RR skipper played a fighting knock to put his side back into the game, but the Royals eventually fell short by a run. During his 45-ball stay in the middle, Parag smashed six boundaries and eight maximums, at a strike rate of 211.11. What grabbed the eyeballs was Parag hitting Moeen Ali for five consecutive sixes.

I’m hitting 4 sixes in an over at some point this IPL: Riyan Parag

The incident took place in the 13th over when Parag went for five successive sixes, getting 30 runs. However, he also unleashed his power, hitting Varun Chakaravarthy for another maximum, making him the first batter to hit six consecutive sixes in IPL history.

Soon after Riyan Parag’s onslaught, an old tweet of the batter went viral, which he had posted on March 14, 2023. The tweet read, “My inner conscience says I’m hitting 4 sixes in an over at some point this IPL…”. However, this feat did not come true for the young batter in the IPL 2023, but it came to reality in IPL 2025, where he hit Moeen Ali for five consecutive sixes.
