Paris Saint-Germain extended their lead in the Ligue 1 points table after defeating Marseille 1-0 on Sunday night at the Parc des Princes. After the game, star forward Kylian Mbappe denied rumours suggesting his possible departure from the French capital in the upcoming January transfer window.
Neymar Jr. scored the only goal of the match in the first half as Kylian Mbappe crossed the ball into the corner to find the Brazilian star. However, Lionel Messi was also abreast of giving PSG the lead as his 35th minute freekick hit the crossbar.
In a post-game interview, the 23-year-old Mbappe was questioned on his PSG departure rumours and the French forward denied leaving the Parisians. Mbappe was 'shocked' to hear the rumours of his departure and told the reporters, "I never asked for my departure in January. The info that came out on the day of the match I did not understand. I am not directly or indirectly involved in this info. I’m just as shocked as everyone else."
Earlier, multiple reports suggested that Mbappe’s relationship with PSG has ‘completely broken down’ with ‘no turning back’. These problems come after a long saga where the 23-year-old was set to leave his current club and reportedly join Spanish club Real Madrid.
Meanwhile, PSG will next face Ajaccio in Ligue 1 fixture on Friday night at the Stade François Coty before hosting Maccabi Haifa in their next UEFA Champions League 2022-23 group stage fixture on October 26.
