The inaugural edition of Neeraj Chopra Classic has now been pushed back indefinitely after several sporting events in the country were suspended following the recent attacks in the Kashmir valley. As the cross-border tensions between the two neighbouring countries is escalating, several events, including the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Neeraj Chopra Classic and several others have been cancelled.

The confirmation on the NC Classic getting called off at the moment comes after the ace Indian athlete and two-time Olympic medallist, Neeraj Chopra took to X and clarified on the stance, seeing the current situation in the country. “In light of the current situation, the inaugural edition of the NC Classic stands postponed until further notice,” Chopra said in a post on X.

“This decision has been made after careful thought and consultation, with the well-being of athletes, stakeholders, and the broader community as the top priority,” the statement further added.

“We believe in the unifying power of sport. But, in this critical moment, standing firm with the nation matters most. All our gratitude and thoughts at this point are only with our Armed Forces, who are at the forefront for our nation,” he further stated. Chopra also clarified that “a revised schedule for the NC Classic will be provided in due course.”

The event, which was set to be a first of its kind, was scheduled to be held at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru on May 24. Moreover, the world-recognised tournament was set to see some of the top class athletes in javelin throw take the centre-stage, including the likes of Anderson Peters (two-time world champion and Olympic bronze medallist), Thomas Rohler (former Olympic champions), Yulius Yego (Olympic medallist and former world champions), Curtis Thompson and several others.
