Glenn Maxwell's counter-attacking century helped Australia pull off a thrilling five-wicket win over India in the 3rd T20I. With this triumph, Mathew Wade-led Australia won their first match of the series as they remain 2-1 behind. Coming back to the game, Australia won the toss and invited Team India to bat first.
Unlike the previous two games, the Men in Blue lost two quick wickets before Ruturaj Gaikwad and captain Suryakumar Yadav steadied the ship and built a crucial 67-run partnership. But as Yadav departed after a well-made 39 in 29 balls with five fours and two sixes, Gaikwad took control and carried the Indian innings to over the 200 mark as he reached his maiden international century.
Supporting the Indian vice-captain, Tilak Varma scored 31 in 24 balls with four boundaries. Team India posted 222 as Ruturaj Gaikwad remained not at 123 in 57 balls with 13 fours and seven sixes. The second innings saw Australia come back with a hammer start with Travis Head and Aaron Hardie posting 47 in 4.1 over before the latter's dismissal.
Head continued scoring freely before being dismissed at 35 in 18 balls as Australia was put on the back foot. Th troubles continued for the CWC 2023 champs as they lost a few more wickets until Glenn Maxwell took charge. Nicknamed the Big Show, the Aussie all-rounder took the Indian bowling with some massive blows.
Supporting Maxwell, Mathew Wade played a crucial 16-ball 28 but the Big Show smashed 21 runs in the final over to finish off the game and give Australia a five-wicket win. When the dust settled, Maxwell completed his fourth T20I century as he finished with 104 in 48 balls with eight fours and four sixes and was named the Player of the Match.
