India opener Shubman Gill, who has been in staggering form, reportedly tested positive for dengue ahead of Team India's ICC Men's ODI World Cup 2023 opener against Australia on October 8 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. If the reports are true, then India could miss the services of the 24-year-old for their high-voltage clash against the Aussies.

According to a report by the Indian Express a BCCI insider was quoted as saying, "Shubhman has had a high fever since landing in Chennai. His tests are being done. He will have tests on Friday, and a call will be taken on his participation in the opening game."

The Indian youngster was not available for India's training sessions at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Wednesday and Thursday. “He’s under the weather, the medical team is closely monitoring him. We are hoping he gets better soon,” says the BCCI spokesperson.

With India's World Cup opener just two days away, Gill's availability for the match against Australia is subject to his fitness as the BCCI spokesperson added, " We will have to wait on more updates from the medical team."

In Gill's absence from the World Cup opener against Australia, India wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan is expected to open the innings for India alongside skipper Rohit Sharma. Kishan has scored three-half-centuries in five ODIs for India as an opener including his 82-run heroics against Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2023.
