The cricketing action will soon shift to the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, set to be jointly hosted in the United States of America and the West Indies next month (June). However, ahead of the marquee tournament, which will see some of the top teams lock horns for the title clash, has received a from the Islamic State (ISIS).

The cricketing world has received a shocking message reportedly shared by a pro-Islamic State of Iraq and Syria group, thus casting a shadow of apprehension over the International Cricket Council (ICC) as well as the hosts of the ninth edition of the T20 World Cup 2024. In a post which is doing rounds on social media, the graphic depicts a figure armed with a rifle alongside an ominous message, “YOU WAIT FOR THE MATCHES…AND WE WAIT FOR YOU…..”.

Moreover, the disturbing graphic mentions the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York with date June 9 also specifically mentioned there. This brings chilling waves with the world set to see the highly anticipated India versus Pakistan clash at the newly constructed stadium. The pictorial also features aerial drones circling above the stadium along with a dynamite and a ticking clock.

Speaking of the makeshift stadium in Eisenhower Park, it will be the host to the India versus Pakistan clash out of the eight matches set to be played during the course of the tournament. It features a maximum capacity of 34,000 fans.

Security in place: ICC spokesperson after threating images go viral

However, the US authorities have reported any such kind of threat following the poster release, but an ICC spokesperson did speak on it. “The safety and security of everyone at the event is our number one priority, and we have a comprehensive and robust security in place. We work closely with the authorities in our host countries and continually monitor and evaluate the global landscape to ensure appropriate plans in place to mitigate any risks identified to our event,” the spokesperson said.

Moreover, it is not the first time such a threat has been raised in the cricketing competitions. According to a previous report by the Indian Express, followers of the ISIS have been found using online chat rooms on the Matrix.org network, where they urged others with a message that read, “prepare your weapon, devise your plan, and then lure them in”.
