Captain Rohit Sharma gave the perfect start as India posted 62 in 5.5 overs. But as Sharma got out at a score of 40 in 24 balls and Shubman Gill followed suit, the duo of Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer steadied the Indian innings. Kohli and Iyer didn't allow South Africa to come back on top as they stitched up 134 runs. Despite a few more quick wickets, Kohli held the innings and completed his record-levelling 49th century in ODIs.

Kohli's ton and crucial cameos by Suryakumar Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja helped India post a staggering 326-run total. The Indian team continued its stellar form with the ball as Mohammed Siraj drew first blood before Ravindra Jadeja turned up with his golden arm. The left-arm spinner picked up a five-wicket haul while Mohammed Shami and Kuldeep Yadav chipped in with two wickets each to give India a historic 243-run victory.
