India A have beaten Hong Kong by 9 wickets with 88 balls to spare in the Women’s T20 Emerging Asia Cup 2023 at the Mission Road Ground in Mong Kok, Hong Kong on June 13, Tuesday. With this impressive win, India A have opened their account with two points in the Group A which features two other teams, including Pakistan A and Nepal.
It was the India A captain Shweta Sehrawat, who won the toss and chose to field first at the Mission Road Ground this afternoon against the home side Hong Kong. Her decision paid rich dividends as the India A bowlers picked up regular wickets from powerplay onwards.
They eventually bowled out Hong Kong for a paltry score of 34 in 14 overs with four bowlers sharing all the wickets among each other. Shreyanka Patil, a star in the making, was the pick of the bunch for India A as she got a five-wicket haul for two runs in her three over spell. Mannat Kashyap and Parshavi Chopra took a couple of wickets for the A side, while Titas Sadhu got one scalp with the ball too.
In the run chase, India A lost their captain Shweta Sehrawat’s wicket in the second over of the innings. But then, Gongadi Trisha joined U Chetry to make light work of the 34 run target to hand their side a comfortable win in their tournament opener in Hong Kong.
For the unversed, this is the first-ever edition of the Women’s T20 Emerging Asia Cup, which includes eight sides divided into two groups. The teams with ODI status, including the likes of India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh, have sent their A squads to the tournament, to compete against Associate nations like Hong Kong, United Arab Emirates, Malaysia, and Nepal.
