Indian all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer, who is currently competing in the Duleep Trophy 2022, had suffered serious injuries after he was hit by a nasty throw on his neck on Friday. Iyer fell on the ground and an ambulance was brought into the ground to rush the injured cricketer to the hospital.

The incident took place during the Day 2 of the ongoing Duleep Trophy 2022 semifinal between Central Zone and West Zone at the SNR College Cricket Ground in Coimbatore.

West Zone bowler Chintan Gaja made an unnecessary throw on his follow through that hit Iyer on his neck leaving the all-rounder on the ground in extreme pain. Iyer removed his helmet while other players rushed towards his aid. Gaja apologised for his wild throw as the ambulance was brought into the ground.

The medical team quickly fetched a stretcher from the ambulance, however, Iyer maintained his composure in difficult time and walked outside the ground himself.

In the second session, Venkatesh Iyer came to bat again and scored two boundaries off Atit Sheth’s bowling before getting out on 14 runs by Tanush Kotian. West Zone restricted Central Zone on 128 runs in the first innings with a brilliant bowling display. Skipper Karan Sharma (34) scored highest runs for his team while Jaydev Unadkat and  Tanush   Kotian picked three wickets each.
