Maintaining their supremacy, Indian men’s junior hockey team defeated arch-rivals Pakistan 2-1 to clinch their fourth Asia Cup title on Thursday evening. Angad Bir Singh and Araijeet Singh Hundal 's goals in the 13th and 20th minute, respectively in the first half led the Indian team to their fourth win. On the other hand, Pakistan’s sole goal came from Abdul Basharat in the second half. This is India’s fourth Asia Cup win, having earlier won in 1987, 1992, and 1996. 

The Indian team remained unbeaten the entire season, and in the process, they have qualified for the FIH Men’s Junior World Cup, which will be held in Malaysia in December this year. India went on offensive from the beginning and earned a penalty corner off their first move. Though India found plenty of space in Pakistan’s defensive third but failed to finish their chances and held on to a 2-0 at halftime. Speaking of the final game, Indian captain, Uttam Singh was adjudged the ‘Player of the Match’ award. Post the win he said, "After the 1-1 draw in the round-robin stage, we were very aware of the areas we had to do well to beat Pakistan. It was quite a nervous final. The team had never played in front of such a big crowd, but I think creating early goals helped us stay in control of the game."

While the winning coach, CR Kumar said that the win was a good team effort. He said, "It came down to executing our opportunities. Though I feel we could have scored a few more goals, when you are playing a big opponent like Pakistan there is a lot of pressure. But I am very happy with the way the players controlled their emotions and played to their potential."

As a gesture of appreciation, the Hockey India’s Executive Board announced a cash award of INR 2 lakh for each player and INR 1 lakh for the support staff. Not only this, wishes started pouring in for the Indian team post their triumph in the mega continental tournament.
