Not for the first time this series did Team India lose another toss against their mighty opponents, England. As a matter of fact, in a must-win contest that recently began at Manchester's Old Trafford, the Indian cricket team playing the fourth and thus, the penultimate Test match against the hosts England lost a toss yet again. This, however, was the fourteenth time that India have lost a toss in any men's international contest. In that regard, there are losses, there are big losses and then, this one that could, quite simply, be dubbed one loss too many.

Resultantly, Team India, put into bat by England, who won the toss began the proceedings. And as it turned out, upon the completion of the the opening day's play, India, put into bat, scored 264 for the loss of 4 wickets.

Surely, even as Team India were sent into bat resulting from losing yet another toss at the end, the team did hold itself well in what could be dubbed an exciting and challenging contest against England as seen on Day 1.

India finish day 1 on 264/4, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sai Sudharsan score 50s

Not only did KL Rahul, in scoring 46, go beyond his 1000th run-mark against England, and that too, in England, Yashasvi Jaiswal resumed to some useful run-making, scoring another vital fifty in his growing career. Having said that, Ben Stokes, dominant English captain in taking the wicket of his opening number, removed Shubman Gill for a modest score.

By that count, not only did Gill endure a tough day in which he went on to lose his fourth consecutive toss against England on this very tour, he also missed out on scoring big runs, having scored mightily well as seen earlier. The Indian test captain's best ever individual Test score came on this very tour to England, wherein he scored a fighting 269 in the Second Test match of the inning. Further, Rishabh Pant suffered a painful injury forcing him out of the ground. After that, Sai Sudharsan top scored with 61(151) runs. Ravindra Jadeja and Shardul Thakur remained at the crease by the end of the as India finished day one on 264/4. That said, while India may have lost just the toss, there's still a lot of competitive cricket to happen in the four remaining days to follow.
