Indian origin tennis player from the US, Samir Banerjee, has stormed into the finals of Wimbledon junior men’s singles 2021. The Indian-American defeated Frenchman Sascha Gueymard Wayenburg in the semis by 7-5, 4-6, 6-2 on Saturday. This was the 17-year-old’s second appearance at the junior Grand Slam. The first set between the two was quite back and forth, however, Banerjee won it at the end. He kept his momentum and made a comeback in the third set, having lost the second to Sascha.
Following this, the Indian American received a standing ovation on Court No.1, after he defeated his French opponent in the semis. The 17-year-old will now face Victor Lilov in the first all American boys final at Wimbledon since 2014, in the mega clash on Sunday.

Upon winning the semi-finals of Wimbledon junior men’s singles, Samir Banerjee thanked the crowd for his support and was elated to win in front of a large number of people. "That was crazy, easily the biggest crowd I have ever played in front of, I had the crowd support for the most part," the 17-year-old added. He further mentioned that it was an amazing experience and winning the semis on top of it felt incredible.
Banerjee comes from Basking Ridge in New Jersey and has learnt the basics of tennis in the US. The Indian- American lost the first-round match in the French Open, but made a striking comeback in Wimbledon, making his presence felt and not looking back since he has recovered.
