Day after a cricketer named Vikas Negi passed away after suffering a heart attack while batting, another Indian cricketer lost his life after being hit by a ball during a match in Mumbai. The tragic incident took place during a cricket match at Matunga’s Major Dhadkar Maiden on Monday, 8th January.
Notably, the deceased Jayesh Savla, aged 52, was playing the Kutchi Community’s cricket tournament at the Dadar Union Sporting Club. While Savla was positioned close to the other match being played on the ground at the adjacent Dadar Parsee Colony pitch, he was hit by a powerful shot on his head, leading to his tragic death.
The businessman from Bhayandar was immediately rushed to Sion Hospital after being struck by the ball, where he was declared dead on arrival. Narrating the incident, Rohit Gangar, who was part of the eight-team tournament said, “We had two matches on Monday afternoon, one at Dadar Union and the second at the Dadar Parsee Colony pitch. Salva was playing for Gala Rocks against Master Blaster and was positioned at point when the DPC game’s batter hit a pull shot. The ball hit him on the back of his head, exactly where Australia’s Phil Hughes had been hit which led to his death.”
Speaking of Vikas Negi’s death, the cricketer suddenly collapsed in the middle of the pitch after walking up to his striking partner Umesh Kumar to congratulate him for hitting a four.
