India’s Abhay Singh has qualified for the PSA World Championships which will start on May 3 in Chicago, United States of America. Singh defeated Spanish counterpart Ivan Perez in Round 2 of the qualifying. Abhay Singh didn’t give Perez a chance in the first two sets as he won them 11-5 and 11-7 but the Spaniard came back in the third set as he won 11-9. Singh kept his cool and won the fourth set 11-7. He beat England’s Ben Coleman 17-15, 11-8, 11-3 in Round 3, thus completely dominating the 32-year-old Coleman to book his place in the Championships.

The World number 66 will now face Malaysia’s world number-20 ranked Eain Yow Nug in the first round of the World Championships. These two have faced each other only once before in the Malaysian squash tour in 2016 when Yow Nug won 12-10,5-11,11-9,11-5.

In February 2023, Singh won the seventh PSA title of his career after coming out on the top in the HCL-SRFI Indian Tour. The Indian has had a string of decent results as he reached the quarterfinals of the Guilfoyle PSA Squash Classic 2023 but lost to England’s Nathan Lake. He also reached the semifinals of the MRU Open.

In the women’s qualifying, Tanvi Khana beat Kaitlyn Watts and Allison Thomson in Round 1 and 2 in straight sets but failed to get past the Egyptian Zeina Zein as she lost 11-8,11-5,11-5.
