Virat Kohli dominated the list, becoming India's highest-ranked ODI batter 12 times in a row from 2011 to 2022. He achieved the top ranks five times in 2012, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020. The right-handed batter is regarded as one of the best batters in the world, especially in the ODI format, where he has scored 51 centuries, the most by any batter in the 50-over format.

Known as the prince of Indian cricket, Shubman Gill broke the 12-year streak of Virat Kohli to be the highest-ranked Indian batter in ODIs by achieving the top rank in ODIs in 2023 with his outstanding performance in the year. The top-order batter also achieved the highest rank once again in 2025, dethroning Babar Azam.

Rohit Sharma, known for his elegance and effortless hitting, became the highest-ranked Indian batter in ODIs in 2023, thanks to his outstanding run in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
