The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced Team India for the upcoming five-match Test series in England. Following Rohit Sharma’ retirement from Test cricket, the board has entrusted Shubman Gill with the leadership mantle. With the aim of winning the Test series in England after 18 years, India will have to go with a solid playing XI that can deliver effective results. Noting India’s 18-member squad, SportsTiger has picked up a probable 11-member squad for the tour in English conditions.

Openers: KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal

KL Rahul might be handed the opportunity to open the innings with Yashasvi Jaiswal. In India’s previous Test assignment in Australia, Jaiswal proved himself as an opener. Appearing in 10 innings of five matches, he scored 391 runs with a ton and a couple of fifties.

Middle-order batters: Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill (C), and Rishabh Pant (WK)

Sai Sudharsan might be seen batting at number three for the side. Captain Shubman Gill may fill the number four position, where Virat Kohli served Team India for 11 years. Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant’s role will be to solidify the middle order while playing at number five.

All-rounders: Nitish Kumar Reddy and Ravindra Jadeja

Nitish Kumar Reddy looked impressive with his bat in Australia and noting his potential, the board has picked him up for England Tests. His responsibility will be to deliver fine numbers to the team mostly with the bat. Veteran Ravindra Jadeja will be expected to spearhead the spin-bowling unit.

Bowlers: Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, Prasidh Krishna

Jasprit Bumrah will be seen leading India’s fast-bowling unit. In the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, the speedster emerged as the leading wicket-taker with 32 scalps in nine innings of five games. He will be supported by Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna. Kuldeep Yadav, along with Jadeja, will be expected to deliver a headache to the English side.
