The IPL 2022 Mega Auction is not too far from taking place and the franchises are well aware of it. The planning and strategy formation has already begun and according to a latest report, Shreyas Iyer is the hot favorite for the captaincy position. Multiple franchises are planning on having Iyer as their captain in the next edition of the Indian Premier League. The front-runner in the list is Royal Challengers Bangalore.

According to a TOI report, the Bangalore-based franchise is taking strides to appoint Iyer as their captain. “Post Virat Kohli quitting the RCB captaincy, RCB are really interested in having Iyer as their next captain. Expect them to bid aggressively for the Mumbaikar in next month’s auction in Bangalore,” wrote TOI in its report.

Apart from Bangalore, Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders have also shown interest in having Iyer as their captain. “The Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings are also expected to eye him in the auction,” the report stated. Notably, Iyer left his previous franchise Delhi Capitals after they opted for Rishabh Pant as their captain. The Mumbai batter has also made it clear that he wants to be the captain of whichever franchise he plays for.

Is Iyer a good choice for RCB?

If the team owners and managers are able to successfully bid for Iyer in the mega auctions, he looks all set to take over the leadership role. It will be indeed a big achievement for the franchise, to get hold of a future prospect. Shreyas Iyer, while leading Delhi Capitals, has led his team to victory in 21 games out of 41 games. He has lost 18 and two games have ended in No Result. The 27-year-old has a win percentage of 51.22%, slightly ahead of RCB's former captain Virat Kohli (45.71%).

Shreyas Iyer, the batter, has also been impressive. He has amassed 2375 runs in 87 games at an average of 31.75 and a strike rate of 123.96. He possesses the ability to hit bowlers at will which makes him a dangerous batsman. Also, Iyer will get help from the two experienced campaigners, Kohli and Maxwell in the RCB camp.
