Miffed with Sunrisers Hyderabad over the way it ignored pre-auction plans, Simon Katich has reportedly resigned as the assistant coach of the franchise.

Earlier Trevor Bayliss and Brad Haddin had departed from SRH’s backroom staff. The resignation, as per a report in The Australian, came as a result of SRH reportedly going against their pre-auction plans in the IPL 2022 mega auction. While disagreement over auction strategy is one thing, Katich is also said to have been annoyed with the way the franchise has been managed of late.

Hyderabad had finished bottom of the standings in the IPL 2021 season. In addition, the way they treated David Warner during the competition also grabbed a lot of eyeballs. Warner was stripped of captaincy midway through the tournament and was also dropped from the SRH playing XI. The team underwent a radical change this time around, roping in plenty of fresh faces while giving captaincy to Kane Williamson on a permanent basis.

In the mega auction held last week, Sunrisers Hyderabad picked up the likes of Aiden Markram and Marco Jansen. Apart from Williamson, they had retained young cricketers Umran Malik and Abdul Samad.

In fact, the Hyderabad franchise bought a lot of young Indian players who do not have much exposure at the highest level, but it may be recalled that they have bought back pacers T Natarajan and Bhuvneshwar Kumar and picked India off-spinner Washington Sundar and West Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Nicholas Pooran who could be their big players.

However, the Hyderabad side did not bid for Jason Holder as the West Indian all-rounder was their second most successful bowler with 16 wickets from 8 matches, two wickets behind Rashid Khan, who was also released and was later drafted in by the Gujarat Titans ahead of the auction.

Sunrisers Hyderabad Squad for IPL 2022: Kane Williamson, Umran Malik, Abdul Samad, Washington Sundar, Nicholas Pooran, T Natarajan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Priyam Garg, Rahul Tripathi, Abhishek Sharma, Kartik Tyagi, Shreyas Gopal, Jagadeesha Suchith, Aiden Markram, Marco Jansen, Romario Shepherd, Sean Abbott, R Samarth, Shashank Singh, Saurabh Dubey, Vishnu Vinod, Glenn Phillips, Fazalhaq Farooqi.
