The sixteenth edition of the Indian Premier League which will also be called IPL 2023 is likely to start on 31 March or 1st April. As the edition will feature as many as 74 games, the organizers will look for an early start just like last season. In 2022, IPL kick-started in the last week of March and went on till the end of May. The sixteenth edition is also slated to start around the last week of March or the first week of April.

As the inaugural edition of the Women’s IPL is also set to take place in March 2023, the organizers are looking to maintain a healthy gap between the final of WIPL and the opening fixture of IPL. It’s reported that the Women’s IPL will be played between 4-26 March 2023. Meanwhile, the IPL will kick off a few days later.

A report in Cricbuzz claimed that WIPL will be held at the two venues in Mumbai- Brabourne Stadium and DY Patil Stadium. Meanwhile, the Wankhede Stadium will be kept ready for IPL. In the same report, the website also made a claim about the start date of IPL.

“In all likelihood, the league will be played in Mumbai with the Brabourne Stadium in South Mumbai and the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai being potential venues for the 22 games in the first season. The Wankhede is likely to be kept ready for the IPL, which is likely to start on March 31 or April 1,” reported Cricbuzz.

Notably, IPL is set to return to its old format where all teams play half of their league games at their home grounds and the rest on away grounds. The league could not be played in this format for three seasons due to COVID-19. While half of IPL 2020 and the entire IPL 2021 were hosted in the UAE, IPL 2022 was played in five cities in India.
