Punjab Kings have defeated Rajasthan Royals by five runs in the eighth match of the IPL 2023, with the help of Nathan Ellis' game changing spell (4/30) in the second innings and 90-run opening stand between Dhawan and Prabhsimran. PBKS posted 197/4 with skipper Dhawan (86*) top scoring for his team and among RR bowlers, Holder (2/29), Ashwin (1/25) did a brilliant job while Chahal (1/50) was very expensive.

Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, RR managed to post 192 runs in reply with the help of quick-fire knocks from Sanju Samson, Shimron Hetmyer and Dhruv Jurel. The 22-year-old debutant from UP impressed everyone by scoring 32 runs off 15 balls in his debut IPL game.
