With the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) just round the corner, the franchises are toiling hard to field their best XI in the tournament. With the IPL 2024 opener seeing reigning champions in Chennai Super Kings taking on Royal Challengers Bangalore at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, recent reports reveal that the MS Dhoni-led side may open with new faces.
In a big news coming from the camp of the defending champions, their star signing, Rachin Ravindra is likely to open the inning with Ruturaj Gaikwad. Moreover, reports also suggest that New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell will come at number three. However, the Chennai-based outfit has not confirmed on anything like this, but these reports come into picture seeing the New Zealand T20I lineup. New Zealand trio of Mitchell Santner, Rachin Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell joins CSK
The New Zealand trio of Mitchell Santner, Rachin Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell joined the Yellow Army camp on Sunday, March 17 ahead of the IPL 2024. The Chennai-based franchise shared a video of the Kiwi trio with the caption reading, “Kiwis on call ➡️ Kiwis down the hall”.
While Mitchell Santner made his debut in 2019, following which he picked 13 wickets at an economy of 6.88. In the 2023 edition, the Kiwi all-rounder scalped only three wickets in as many matches with an average of 27 and economy rate of 6.75. Apart from him, while Rachin Ravindra will make his IPL debut this season, Daryl Mitchell, who made his IPL debut with RCB in 2022, did not feature in the tournament in 2023 edition, owing to an injury.
Speaking of the CSK’s IPL 2024 schedule, the MS Dhoni-led side will open their campaign against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on March 22. They will then host Gujarat Titans on March 26 before travelling to Visakhapatnam to face Delhi Capitals on March 31 and Hyderabad to play Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 5.
