IPL 2025 Key Players
Chennai Super Kings - Noor Ahmad, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shivam Dube & Rachin Ravindra
Chennai Super Kings have crafted a squad tailored to the spin-friendly conditions at Chepauk. Noor Ahmad, known for his deceptive variations, had a stellar outing in the 2024 CPL with an economy of 6.25 in middle overs.
Rachin Ravindra enters IPL 2025 after an explosive Champions Trophy, where he amassed 378 runs at an average of 63.0. His left-handed strokeplay will be pivotal in Chennai’s top order alongside Ruturaj Gaikwad, who scored 552 runs in IPL 2024.
Meanwhile, Shivam Dube, with a strike rate of 162.5 against spin in 2024, is expected to dominate the middle overs.
Delhi Capitals - Faf du Plessis, KL Rahul, Mitchell Starc, Axar Patel
The experience of Faf, KL Rahul and Mitchell Starc counts big time for the Delhi Capitals this season. All these players can single-handedly win games on their day. If they fire collectively, then Delhi can possibly win their first IPL title under their new leader, Axar Patel. Though the left arm will be captaining for the first time, he can be effective in the powerplay overs, control the run-flow in the middle overs and the crisis man in the middle order.
Gujarat Titans - Shubman Gill, Jos Butler, Rashid Khan, Mohammad Siraj
The Titans have a solid top order at a high-scoring home ground in Ahmedabad. Shubman Gill and Jos Butler are a rare, deadly combo that we are about to witness this season, and a lot will depend on them to provide good starts and expect Gill to hold the innings from one end while Butler goes bang-bang from the other end. Rashid Khan and Mohammad Siraj are two of the most experienced bowlers and genuine wicket-takers. These two bowlers are vital for the Titans in the middle and death overs.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) - Ajinkya Rahane, Sunil Narine, Varun Chakravarthy, Venkatesh Iyer
The new KKR captain, Ajinkya Rahane, has had a good run in the domestic season. His leadership and tactics will be vital for the defending champions. Sunil Narine, as usual, is mighty effective with both bat and ball. Varun Chakravarthy is in fine form and a wicket-taker for KKR. Venkatesh Iyer was bought for huge bucks. A lot is expected of him. He is a high-value player in the middle order and can play big knocks with consistency.
Lucknow SuperGiants - Rishabh Pant, Nicholas Pooran, David Miller, Ravi Bishnoi
The biggest signing in the history of IPL, Rishabh Pant, alongside Pooran and David Miller, is a rare deadly left-hander trio. Three of the best T20 cricketers who can win take the game away from their opponents with big hitting. Ravi Bishnoi, in the absence of Mayank Yadav, Avesh Khan, and Mohsin Khan, relies heavily on his shoulders to lead the bowling attack.
Mumbai Indians - Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav
Tilak Varma is in fine form, he will be key to Mumbai’s batting alongside Suryakumar Yadav, while Hardik Pandya is the designated finisher and the leader of the side. Boom Boom Bumrah mighty effective at all phases of the game.
Punjab Kings - Shreyas Iyer, Glenn Maxwell, Arshdeep Singh, Yuzvendra Chahal
Shreyas Iyer's key season is as captain and as a batter, and he is coming off some really good performances in international cricket. Glenn Maxwell owes Punjab Kings for backing him in all the seasons; he is expected to fire on all cylinders this season. Arshdeep and Chahal are key to Punjab’s bowling, which has always been a weak link over the past 17 seasons.
Rajasthan Royals - Sanju Samson, Riyan Parag, Wanindu Hasaranga, Yashasvi Jaiswal
The Royals' strength this season is their batting, where their top five can make a big impact, especially the opening pair of Jaiswal and Samson. Riyan Parag was the leading run-scorer for the Royals with 500+ runs; he is expected to come good this season. Hasaranga might not be effective early in the season, but he will be lethal in the later stages of the tournament, and his wicket-taking ability makes him a key player in the Royals lineup.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru - Virat Kohli, Phil Salt, Rajat Patidar, Josh Hazlewood
Kohli and Salt at the top of the order is a deadly combination, and their partnerships will be key to RCB’s success alongside Patidar’s explosive batting in the middle overs, where he averages over 50 against spinners and strikes at over 150. Hazlewood looks fit, his experience and accuracy are what RCB’s bowling lineup needs to keep the opponent batters in check.
Sunrisers Hyderabad - Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Harshal Patel
The trio of Head, Abhishek and Kishan can take the game away from their opponents in the first 10 overs, which is key to laying down a perfect platform for the likes of Nitish Kumar and Klaassen to explode at the backend of an innings. From the bowling point of view SRH have been tad shaky in the death overs, but this season they have the likes of Harshal Patel the leading wicket taker last season (21 wickets).
