The highly anticipated 2025 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), arguably the biggest T20 franchise tournament in the world, is expected to begin in the latter half of March as Kolkata Knight Riders will be defending their title. With that, the fans are eagerly awaiting the schedule of the IPL 2025, and as per the sources close to the development with SportsTiger, the announcement of the tournament’s schedule is set to happen this week.

Notably, the 2025 season of the IPL, which is going to be the 18th edition of the tournament, will feature 10 teams competing in 74 matches, as per the multiple reports published in the media, it will begin on March 21 and end with the final on May 25. Since Kolkata Knight Riders are the defending champions of the IPL, the honour of hosting the opening ceremony and match could end up being theirs at the Eden Gardens.

Dates of IPL for next three seasons already given to all teams

The recent report from ESPNcricinfo stated that the dates of the IPL for the next three seasons, from 2025 to 2027, have been sent by the league’s governing council to all the 10 franchises ahead of the mega auction held last year. The tentative dates for the next three editions of the IPL are expected to fall between March 14 to May 2025 timelines over the coming years.

Moreover, ahead of the IPL 2025 season, all the 10 teams have put together their full squads with an aim to not only win the coveted title this year, but also during the next two years. Rishabh Pant became the most expensive player in the history of the IPL after Lucknow Super Giants signed him for INR 27 Crore, beating the previous record holder Shreyas Iyer, who was signed minutes prior in the same IPL auction by Punjab Kings for INR 26.75.
