Coming as a major shock for all the football fans in the country, the Indian Super League match between ATK Mohun Bagan and Odhisha FC, scheduled to be played on January 8, has been postponed following a positive case in Mohun Bagan's camp.

The information was notified by ISL in its media release which stated that "Hero Indian Super League (ISL) has decided to postpone Match No. 53 between ATK Mohun Bagan and Odisha FC scheduled to be played today, Saturday, January 8, 2022, at PJN Stadium in Fatorda. The League will look to reschedule the fixture to a later date."

The statement further elaborated that the decision has been taken in consultation with the League's medical team and with the help of medical experts the league's management is monitoring the situation and "will ensure the safety of all the players and support staff in the squad and others involved."

With ATK Mohun Bagan on 15 points and Odisha on 13 points after 9 games each, it was one of the most anticipated matches of the weekend. However, the league organizers were forced to take the decision of postponing the game to ensure no further outbreak of virus within the bio-bubble.

Notably, the other game between Goa and Chennaiyin (Match No. 54) scheduled on Saturday is likely to continue as planned. The match, which will be played at GMC Athletic Stadium, is slated to kick-off at IST 9:30 PM onwards.
