Australian captain Pat Cummins couldn't control his laughter as he was asked about England’s recent loss against Sri Lanka in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. The Three Lions suffered another colossal eight-wicket loss against the Lankans in Bengaluru where their batting imploded. The storied England batting lineup only managed to score 156 runs in the first innings.

Chasing this short target, Sri Lanka didn’t waste any time and finished off the game in 26 overs registering their second consecutive win of the World Cup. Addressing this result, one of the Australian journalists asked Cummins to share his reaction. The reporter asked, “You mentioned good friends in other teams. It must have been heartbreaking to see England suffer last night?”
The Aussie captain had a rather short answer as he talked about how they will face England soon in the world and then described the performance as something very sad. He said, Obviously got them in a couple of games time, so we'll have a close look there... Yeah, it's very sad to see… I don't have much for you.”

Further talking about the English defeat, Three Lions coach Mathew Mott expressed disappointment with his team and described England being in a ‘ bit of trouble.’ While speaking to Sky Sports, Mott said, "Mathematically, we'd have to have a lot of things go our way."
"As I said leading up today, we could control it from there, but it certainly hasn't done our net run-rate any help at all and, depending on others... we'll keep fronting, we'll keep treating each game in isolation and try and salvage some really good stuff out the back end of this. But realistically, we're in bit of trouble, for sure."
