World men’s singles ranked 10 HS Prannoy bettered his record against Li Shi Feng of China after handing him first round defeat in the ongoing Japan Open 2023. The Indian shuttler, who entered the tournament as eighth seeded beat the reigning All England champion in straight sets 21-17, 21-13 to enter the per-quarters.

With this win over Li Shi Feng, Prannoy went 3-0 up in the head-to-head records, continuing his domination over his Chinese opponent.

The 31-year-old will next play countryman and former World No. 1 Kidambi Srikanth in the Round of 16 on July 26 and the winner of the same is likely to face World Champion and top-seeded Viktor Axelsen later in the tournament.

It is to be noted that HS Prannoy won his first BWF World Tour title at the Malaysia Masters in May this year. Since then,  he has remained India’s top-seeded player.
