Japan Open 2023: Indian men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj-Chirag and Lakshya Sen advance to next round; PV Sindhu knocked out

The Indian men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj and Chirag Shetty continued their unbeaten streak as they beat the Indonesian pair of Rolly Carnando and Dabiel Marthin in Tokyo on Wednesday, July 26. The third-seeded pair, who are coming from the Korea Open title triumph defeated the unseeded duo in the first round.

 

The Indian pair beat the unseeded pair 21-16, 11-21, 21-13 in the opening round in a match which lasted for 56 minutes at the Yoyogi National Gymnasium. The World No. 2 will next face Denmark’s Jeppe Bay and Lasse Molhede on Thursday, July 27 in Round 2.

 

On the other hand, World No. 13 ranked Indian Lakshya Sen beat his countrymen Priyanshu Rajawat 21-15, 12-21, 24-22 in a tightly contested Round of 32 match, which lasted for an hour and five minutes. The 21-year-old will next face Japan’s Kanta Tsuneyama in the R16 on Thursday.

 

PV Sindhu knocked out after two straight set defeat

 

India’s two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu went down against his 18-ranked Women’s Singles opponent Zhang Yi Man. The Indian shuttler lost 21-12, 21-13 with the Chinese better the head-to-head record 3-2 over Sindhu.
