Jasprit Bumrah, the Indian fast bowler, is likely to get ruled out of the second Test of the five-match series of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against England at Edgbaston in Birmingham, starting on July 2. It is understood that the workload management or potential of playing at Lord’s in London in the third Test, could end up being the reason for his exclusion from the Indian playing XI for the upcoming Test versus England next week.

After bowling a whopping 44 overs in the first Test at Headingley in Leeds, which India lost by five wickets, there was a question mark on whether Jasprit Bumrah will come out of it with enough gas left in the tank for the second Test in a week’s time. With that, a report from the Indian Express has mentioned that Jasprit Bumrah won’t turn up for the upcoming match against England in all probability with his return set for Lord’s in London for the third Test starting on July 10.

Akash Deep or Arshdeep Singh might replace Jasprit Bumrah in India's playing XI for second Test

The performance of Jasprit Bumrah’s across two innings of England had a stark contrast with him taking a five-wicket haul despite a number of catches dropped off his bowling, but in the second innings, he wasn’t able to take any wickets during India’s defense of the 370-run total. The likes of Prasidh Krishna and Shardul Thakur did take a couple of wickets in the England second innings, but they were quite expensive with the ball, while Mohammed Siraj also couldn’t dismiss an English batter on the fifth and final day despite bowling relatively well.

Apart from that, the lower order of the Indian batting lineup has also caused a massive concern to the team management after they capitulated in both the innings against the England bowling lineup, most specifically Josh Tongue. In case Jasprit Bumrah is indeed ruled out of the second Test next week, he could be replaced by either Akash Deep or Arshdeep Singh if India are looking to make a like-for-like change, but they could also look at Kuldeep Yadav’s wrist spin on pitches conducive to batting and some spin later in the contest.

India need to get their act together in the field as well with a lot of drop catches from them in the first Test allowing England batters to score big runs in both the innings.
